About Us
Diablo Sound specializes in sound design, show control, integration, and large project management for theatre, theme parks, cruise ships, and corporate clients. We also provide sound equipment rentals in the Los Angeles area.
We pride ourselves on our professionalism, experience, and creativity. We work closely with our clients and give careful attention to every project, from small rentals to full corporate designs. We believe "the devil is in the details.”
In 2006, Drew Dalzell began Diablo Sound out of a spare guest room in his Pasadena home. It started as a sole proprietorship, with Drew hiring contracted talent as needed. Around 2009, Diablo Sound expanded to a separate office space behind Drew’s house.
Diablo Sound became more successful, with solid clients such as Universal Studios Hollywood and their ever-growing Halloween Horror Nights, Nickelodeon (cruise and hotel), Griffith Observatory, Utopia Entertainment, Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles, Unbound Productions and their celebrated recurring production of Wicked Lit, other theatre work, and gear rentals.
At the end of 2015, Diablo Sound incorporated and officially became Diablo Sound, Inc. From 2016 to the present day, the company’s employee roster has grown ever larger, generally 6-8 full time employees and as many as 40 seasonal contracted workers each year. This positive growth - and a now-thriving sound rental department - created the need for more space, and Diablo Sound moved into a professional office building on Lake Avenue in Pasadena, CA.
The Diablo Sound client list and the scale of the projects continued to increase, with notable clients such as Victory Hill Exhibitions and Marvel Avengers STATION (with multiple locations in the US and around the globe) and Transformers Autobots Alliance (in China and Korea), Feld Entertainment and Trolls the Experience (in the heart of midtown New York), Warner Bros. and their foray into an immersive seasonal experience Horror Made Here, Cross Roads Escape Games, and Video Palace with their sublime original podcast for Shudder.
We added more manufacturers to our line card for increased gear re-sales such as QSC, Shure, Allen & Heath, and work with existing clients continues even to this day. Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights expanded and Diablo Sound grew with it, from one house (their term for a maze) and the Terror Tram (with a month lead-in) to 10 houses and the Terror Tram (and an 8-month lead-in). We tackled Tanaka Farms and their Hikari Festival of Lights for Utopia Entertainment in 2019 and continue to be a collaborator for their exciting projects.
Our experiential, immersive marketing projects are some of our most recent badges of honor. We were hired by Refinery 29 and MC2 for two different marketing experiences to launch Netflix’s Bird Box, we created a fun and interactive experience for Helo and their marketing activation of Jack-in-the-Box’s Monster Taco, we delivered Plus Plus TV’s Chucky Truck at New York Comic Con, and we helped Redrock launch new products in Rhianna’s makeup line with the Fenty Skin “F Club.”
We supported Redrock Entertainment as we brought Stranger Things: A Drive-Into Experience to life for Netflix and Secret Cinema in the fall of 2021, and most recently we helped Redrock create the immersive world of Undercity Nights from Netflix’s television series Arcane, based on Riot Games’ breakout success League of Legends.
